The way it's going, and before this is done....I'm sure that roof will collapse...which means, they'll take this building down

Roof collapsed according to Jacksonville.com and "JFRD says main focus now is to keep walls from collapsing. I guess we got a nice new open lot.

Chris Farley said the walls are solid stone/granite. Why couldn't this building be saved? That said, I've been at work all morning and haven't seen the condition of the building since the fire has been under control. I understand the Klutho Apartments were really bad, and it was saved. We need to see if we think it can be saved, and start right away on preservation efforts if the walls are still solidly standing. Anyone seen it since 7:30 this morning when I saw it last?

EDIT: I just talked to Brenda. Chris just went into the office in tears. Chris said the walls on the Silver Stret side of the building are buckled. She doesn't think it can be saved. :-(

A very big city dump truck just drove past my house towards Pearl.

If the walls are cracked (as some of the news reports say), then it is gone.

We need to salvage.
This can not go away in a dump truck.
Calling Gaffney now.
Forced to leave message.

look at my photos on facebook, the walls are unstable, cracked and bowing on both the east and west sides...It would not surprise me if it'll be down by today or tomorrow. There's absolutely no way they will allow anyone to salvage anything, there's police and fire equipment still on the scene

maybe they can save it with a crane. But in particular the aerial picture that Erik posted on myspringfield shows how the walls bow in. I doubt there is a save way to take the building apart stone by stone.
