1831 Liberty

Post by iloveionia » Fri Jan 28, 2011 2:59 pm

I received an email notification.

There was a small fire there.
It appears as though someone may live in the house, but the house also appears to be being worked on.
There is a rotweiler out front.

I think it is important that we make contact with the owner and see if he/she needs support. We don't want another E. 7th Street situation. I do not know the extent of the damages, the fire appears to be contained on the south side of the building, 2nd floor. Again, it doesn't look bad, but who knows.

HPC is aware. It is likely that MCCD is aware too.

I just walked by and took a look. It is across from Flagship. On the south side of it is the large white house and to the north is an empty lot. This is a rough part of Springfield, if not the worst.

1831 has a hole burned into the South wall at the second floor. I didn't get a good luck as it is close to the other house (the "drug store"). The front porch of 1831 is newly rebuild. The entrance door is now plywood, which I don't remember. This may be to fix the door temporarily after the fire fighters had to break it down. Someone may have been living in it. I think there was a very tame Pitbull in the yard that Facai usually plays with when we walk past.

I think the hole in the wall needs to be at least patched temporarily quickly to prevent further damage. The hole is smaller then the one on 7th and Ionia.

That sounds like good news. Willing to knock on the front door?

Will knock on the door or ask the neighbors tomorrow. I see Gloria posted a picture on myspringfield.

Hopefully the owner can handle it. But if nothing more in life it's nice to know you can turn to someone for help. That's a role we are definitely suited for.
We simply cannot lose any more houses. I wonder what started this fire. Hoping there isn't massive (hidden) damage inside.

Has this house been repaired? Or still boarded from the inside?

<gloria>

I haven't looked at it. If it is the house I think it is, it isn't bad.
